In many ways, the phrase, “Play with a purpose,” describes a great deal of what we do at Camp Rockfish, especially when it comes to our summer programming.
Our Mission:
Our mission as a Christian camp is to help others experience, grow in, and share the love of God through Jesus Christ. Ultimately that is our purpose. But “play” is the cornerstone of our strategy. We continue to improve exciting and create new program elements that are fun, engaging, and challenging. When we give a tour of the camp and lay out all of the exciting options retreat groups or summer campers can experience, we love to hear, “Mom, I want to go here.” It’s the fun that brings the campers. It’s the connection with Christ-centered staff that often brings them back. And it’s experiencing the touch of the Living God that changes them forever.
New Programs:
Our newest program element is a perfect example of play with a purpose. We are proud to introduce Camp Rockfish’ new Escape Room (or Escape Yurt to be more specific). For those who don’t know what an Escape Room is, basically, a group of people are locked in a room and have to solve clues within a certain time limit in order to escape. It’s fun. It’s challenging. It takes teamwork. It’s a fantastic leadership tool. AND (speaking of purpose) it flows right into this year’s theme of Set Free.
Get it?! Set Free! Escape room!
It’s the little things that make life entertaining…at least for me.
Theme Scripture:
Our theme scripture is Galatians 5:1, “It is for freedom that Christ has set you free.” The focus of both our resident and day camps is what does it mean to be free in Christ. What does that look like? How do we experience it? As was the case for the church in Galatia, how do we stay free? How do we break away from the things that tend to bind our minds, hearts, and souls in order to experience the abundant life Jesus promised?
Teachable Moments:
There isn’t enough space to unpack all of the teachable moments waiting for campers this year in our escape room. Did the group help or hinder? Did you go along with the crowd, or were you willing to speak up when you felt the group was going in the wrong direction? How did you feel when the door was locked behind you? How about when you found an answer? How about THE answer, when you found the key? All summer long I can foresee some fantastic conversations happening around a bunk bed or campfire.
Of course, no “play” or program is a perfect parallel for a life with Christ. Living free in Christ isn’t the result of solving a litany of riddles or finding the hidden clue. We are set free in Christ. Jesus said in John 8:36, “If the Son sets you free, you are free indeed.”
Whether it’s our new escape room, our high ropes courses, our Group Challenge Course, or one of our dozens of elements, come play at Camp Rockfish this year. Bring your group for a retreat and take advantage of our team building program and play with a purpose.
Parents, register today for a summer program that is full of fun, guaranteed to build friendships with Christ-centered young men and women, and determined to clear the path to experience what it means to truly live free in Christ.
