Camp Odayin

Camp Odayin provides fun, safe and supportive camp experiences and community building opportunities for young people with heart disease and their families.  We hold residential, day, winter and family camp sessions in Minnesota and Wisconsin.  Our volunteer staff are amazing and include counselors, nurses, and cardiologists.

The beautiful heartland of Minnesota is home to Ojibwa people. Our camp derives its name from the Ojibwa word for heart, “odayin”.

Mission

Our mission is based on a holistic approach to healing hearts, a desire to nurture and develop independence, confidence, and acceptance throughout our camper’s lives, the importance of a sense of community among our heart family, and an emphasis on having fun and celebrating life!

Who can attend
Children whose primary health concern is heart disease are encouraged to apply to camp.  Camper eligibility is determined upon recommendation by a pediatric cardiologist and approval by the Camp Odayin Medical Director. The camp director and your child’s cardiologist can help you assess if your child should apply to attend camp.

Cost to attend
There is a $25 fee per person for each of our sessions.  We provide a sliding payment scale during registration to ensure that cost is not a barrier to joining us.  We provide transportation scholarships as well as free camper transportation from several locations to camp.

Camp Odayin’s Programs:

Residential Camp allows campers grades 1-11 to enjoy swimming, boating, arts and crafts, volleyball, horseback riding, nature, basketball, and music in a safe, medically-supervised environment during a five-day experience.  Three weeks of residential camp are in Crosslake, Minnesota and one week of residential camp is in Elkhorn, Wisconsin.

Day Camp allows campers grades K-3 to experience arts & crafts, nature, and new friends while receiving an introduction to our mission during this five day morning program.  This week of day camp is in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Family Camp is an opportunity for families affected by heart disease to come together for a weekend full of fun, education, support and camaraderie.  Families with heart children in 12th grade or younger (no minimum age) are invited to attend.  Family camp happens over two weekends in the fall; one weekend is in Amery, Wisconsin and the second weekend is in Camp Lake, Wisconsin.

Winter Camp offers previous Residential and Day Camp campers the chance to reconnect and experience snowshoeing, broomball, and sledding over a three day weekend in February in Amery, Wisconsin.
