Looking for a fun and unique summer camp experience for your child? The Pennsylvania Trolley Museum, located in Washington, PA, is hosting STEAM summer camps for children ages 6 – 12. Camps combine science, technology, engineering, art, and math along with local history.
All camps include hands-on activities and experiments, behind-the-scenes tours, time to explore the museum’s collection and exhibits, and rides on several fully-restored antique trolleys. These programs provide youth with opportunities to discover new STEAM-focused interests, meet new friends, and make exciting memories.
Camp sessions will be available for children ages 6 – 8 and 9 – 12. Camp will run Monday through Friday from 9 am to 12 pm, rain or shine.
Camps for ages 6-8 include “LEGO® Camp,” where campers will construct simple machines, build catapults and cable cars, then design and create towns connected by railways. At “STEAM Camp,” campers will participate in different daily engineering challenges, such as building the tallest towers and longest bridges, construct working circuits out of dough, and discover how to use science to shrink trolleys down to pocket-size. Youth who attend “Transportation Station” camp will investigate trolleys and trains to boats, cars, and planes while they test different flying contraptions, build barges, investigate track layouts, and learn the ins and outs of being a trolley conductor.
Camps for ages 9 – 12 include “Engineers of the Future,” where campers will have a chance to construct simple and parallel circuits, investigate renewable energy resources, and learn to code with Sphero Robotics to program automated transit routes and build robot-powered horsecars. At “LEGO® Engineering Camp,” campers will design paper airplane launchers, construct rubber band powered cars, build 3D models of repurposed trolleys, and create chain reaction contraptions.
