For thousands of campers over 60 years, Camp Walden is a home-away-from-home. We’re a family owned traditional camp for children ages 7 to 16, where kids explore and grow through new activities, new friends and new challenges.
Walden’s SCREEN-FREE environment actively promotes the critical values of kindness, community, and responsibility, while building independence and resilience in children and teens.
We pride ourselves on embracing every camper as part of our camp family, as well as knowing him/her/they as an individual. Located on 100 acres of forest, meadows and sandy beaches in Northern Michigan, Walden offers a menu of 50 different activities from which campers design their own schedules.
Accredited by the American Camp Association.
Our grounds include eight tennis courts, two large athletic fields, horse-riding stables, art and theater facilities, radio station, photography darkroom, organic garden, and farm. Four Mastercraft ski/wakeboard boats crown our exceptional waterfront program, which also includes canoeing, kayaking, sailing, and stand-up paddleboarding.
Walden has been peanut- and tree-nut-free for more than a decade and a new-in-2017 Dining Hall helps the camp kitchen cater to a variety of dietary needs.
Still run by one of the founding families, Camp Walden boasts a seasoned administrative staff of career educators as well as college-age counselors trained to create a safe, inclusive atmosphere and to give kids an authentic, meaningful experience!
